The sentencing was handed down on June 6 after a trial by jury. Ja-Darrius Jones, who was 18 at the time of his arrest, was sentenced to 999 years in prison.

Officers with the Jacksonville Sheriff’s Office responded to gunshots at a home on Bridges Road near Dunn Avenue on June 15. Police said they found a man and a woman dead inside the home and another man dead outside the home.

The ages of the male victims were 44 and 63. The female was 58. According to a family member, two of the victims were Jones’ grandparents.

Jones was found at a nearby residence and tried to flee out of a window when officers arrived, according to JSO. After a short foot chase, he was arrested.
