Police said Dominic Williams and another man shot three people on W. 5th Street in 2019, one later succumbed to his injuries.

JACKSONVILLE, Fla. — A Jacksonville man has been sentenced to life in prison on murder charges stemming from a 2019 shooting in New Town.

Dominic Williams was sentenced to life in prison for first-degree murder with no possibility of parole Tuesday.

Around 12:14 a.m. on Aug. 12, 2019, officers detected gunshots in the vicinity of 1520 W. 5th Street using ShotSpotter.

Police found three people shot in a vehicle, the arrest report said. One of the victims died at a local hospital and the other two survived.

One of the victims told detectives “he was set up by a female he had never met before” on Instagram, the report said. When they arrived at the location, two men began firing into the passenger side of the vehicle from a vacant lot, the report said.

The report said officers identified a suspect, who was arrested Oct. 3, 2019. That suspect said Joey Adams assisted in luring the victims to the area.

Law enforcement obtained search warrants for the cell phones and social media accounts of the suspect and Adams. Messages revealed Adams telling the suspect to come to W. 5th Street where the victims were expected to be. A forensic download of Adam’s phone showed messages with Dominic Williams, where they discussed the victim’s vehicle, the report said.

Cellphone data also placed Williams near the scene at the time of the murder, the report said. Adams told investigators Williams and two others were with him in the car that night, the report continued.

A witness who spoke with Adams said Adams discussed shooting the victims with his “chopper” using 7.62 rounds, the report said. Adams told the witness he wanted to kill the victim for posting a video on social media disrespecting his little brother. Adams also told the witness the approximate time, date, and location where he killed the victim, the report said.

Adams’ sentencing is set for March 10.
