JACKSONVILLE, Fla. — A Jacksonville man is dead after crashing into a disabled box truck on the Buckman Bridge Monday morning, according to the Florida Highway Patrol.
Troopers said around 6:04 a.m., a 28-year-old man was driving a pickup truck south on I-295 in the left lane of the Buckman Bridge. At the same time, a box truck was disabled in the left emergency lane.
FHP said “for reasons still under investigation,” the driver of the pickup truck entered the emergency lane and crashed into the box truck.
The pickup truck driver was pronounced dead on the scene, troopers said.
The driver of the box truck, a 43-year-old Tampa man, was not injured in the crash.
The crash shut down all southbound lanes on the bridge for several hours Monday morning, causing major traffic backups in the area. As of 11 a.m., all lanes remained closed.
