BIRMINGHAM, Ala. (WIAT) — An inmate at the Jefferson County Jail died over the weekend.

Andre Eugene Hope, 43, of Fultondale, was pronounced dead at 8:10 a.m. Sunday, shortly after being found unresponsive in his cell by a guard.

The Jefferson County Coroner’s Office reports that no signs of trauma or foul play were found in connection with Hope’s death. No cause of death has been determined.

Jail records indicate that Hope had previously been booked in the jail on burglary, marijuana and aggravated criminal surveillance charges from March 27 until he was released on bond on June 26. However, Hope was arrested again on July 1 after being charged with sexual misconduct and stayed in the jail until his death.

Last week, DeAngelo Dewayne Brown died after being found unresponsive in his cell at the Birmingham City Jail. No cause of death has been determined in his case.

The Jefferson County Sheriff’s Office is investigating the circumstances surrounding the death.
