OKLAHOMA CITY (KFOR) A man says he was left to die after being stabbed more than a dozen times earlier this month by his girlfriend’s father.

24-year-old Jonathan Washington was walking home from his girlfriend’s house when he was hit by a truck and nearly stabbed to death.

Mitchell Yoder is behind bars after police say he attacked Washington earlier this month.

“I was was walking home to my grandmother’s house like I do every night, and I’m walking on the median right here,” said Washington. “A white pickup truck just rams into me real hard, and it broke my ankle. I couldn’t walk.”

Washington collapsed and allegedly beaten and stabbed by two men, including Yoder, his girlfriend’s father.

Washington said his wounds were so severe, his intestines were hanging outside of his body. He was allegedly stabbed 17 times.

“They said I was a miracle because they had got me on my neck, they had got me on my chest, but they had just missed my heart,” said Washington.

Washington believes he was attacked because he and his girlfriend got into a verbal argument that day.

Court records detail his girlfriend punching him in the face. Washington said he hit back, in an attempt to defend himself.

Washington said he remembers laying on the ground and not being able to breathe before being rushed to a hospital for emergency surgery.

Yoder has a long criminal record, including an arrest last summer for aggravated assault and battery.

Washington said he never expected an incident like this to happen to him.

“I’m real grateful because I could have lost my life behind just a regular old relationship. So, yeah, I’m real grateful to be alive,” said Washington.

The second man that was with Yoder has not been identified.

Washington says he is no longer dating the woman and is focused on recovering.
