JACKSONVILLE, Fla. — A man was shot in a dispute over a woman outside of his apartment in Jacksonville’s Hogan’s Creek area early Wednesday morning, according to the Jacksonville Sheriff’s Office.
JSO Sergeant Christopher Smith said that around 2 a.m., officers responded to an apartment complex called ‘University Plaza,’ located on Venus Mars Court, after a reported shooting.
When they arrived, the shooting victim, who is in his late 20s, was found with a gunshot wound to his right arm, according to Smith. He was then taken to a local hospital and is expected to survive.
Smith said the man got into a dispute with an unknown individual on Tuesday over a woman. After the argument, the shooting suspect made a threat to shoot the victim’s apartment up, Smith told First Coast News.
Wednesday morning, the victim answered a knock at his front door, walked outside and that’s when the shooting started, Smith said. The shooter then ran away on foot.
Smith further stated that the victim’s girlfriend and their children were inside his apartment when the shooting happened.
“We have a couple of good leads, but we are still working to positively identify the suspect,” Smith said. “Crime Scene Unit Detectives are processing the crime scene.”
JSO violent crime detectives responded and are searching for witnesses and video.
