Police said the suspect shot the victim one time before fleeing in a dark colored vehicle.

JACKSONVILLE, Fla. — A shooting in Northwest Jacksonville left a man dead Friday evening, the Jacksonville Sheriff’s Office said.

Around 5 p.m., officers were dispatched to a person shot in the 7400 block of New Kings Road. They found a man with a gunshot wound to his upper torso. The Jacksonville Fire and Rescue Department took the victim to a local hospital, where he died from his injuries, JSO said.

After talking to multiple witnesses, JSO said an “altercation occurred between the victim and an unknown adult male” and the suspect shot the victim one time before fleeing in a dark colored vehicle.

JSO is working to learn the relationships of the people involved and the investigation is ongoing. The classification of the shooting is “pending,” the agency said.

Anyone with information regarding the shooting is asked to call JSO at 904-630-0500, email JSOCRIMETIPS@Jaxsheriff.org or contact Crime Stoppers at 1-866-845-TIPS.
