The Jacksonville Sheriff’s Office said 26-year-old Zachary Degross posted on social media, saying he would “plow through” any people protesting ICE.

JACKSONVILLE, Fla. — A Jacksonville man is facing a felony charge for threatening to run over protesters on social media, the Jacksonville Sheriff’s Office announced Wednesday.

Police said investigators received a tip about a user commenting on social media, saying if they saw any protesters in Jacksonville, they “would run them over with a tow truck.”

JSO’s Intelligence Unit was able to identify the user as 26-year-old Zachary Degross.

Investigators went to Degross’ home Wednesday for an interview, and police said detectives had enough evidence to make an arrest on a second-degree felony charge of sending written threats to conduct an act of terrorism.

Online jail records showed Degross still in custody at the Duval County jail Wednesday at 5:15 p.m.

“Making a threat like the one Degross made is a felony,” JSO wrote on social media. “If you are making threats online to harm others, even if you don’t intend to follow through with that action, we will arrest you.”

Police encouraged anyone who sees online threats to report them.
