The St. Johns County Sheriff’s Office (SJSO) has issued a public advisory urging residents to steer clear of US-1 near Abbots Way. This alert follows the escape of a potentially dangerous individual during a traffic stop.

In St. Johns County, Florida, authorities are actively searching for a “possibly violent” suspect who managed to evade deputies during a traffic stop. The incident has prompted warnings for the public to avoid the vicinity of US-1 near Abbotts Way.

On the afternoon of Thursday, December 4, the suspect bolted from a traffic stop on I-95 near International Golf Parkway, according to SJSO.

During the ensuing chase, after an attempted pit maneuver, the suspect abandoned the vehicle, fled on foot, commandeered a van, and sped away along International Golf Parkway towards US-1. The suspect eventually abandoned the vehicle near Abbots Way.

The sheriff’s office describes the situation as “active” and advises locals to steer clear of the area for their safety.

This is a developing story.
