Fox's Mark Levin criticizes Trump for attacking Zelensky

Longtime supporter of President Trump, Fox News host Mark Levin, is now diverging from the president due to his recent criticisms of Ukrainian President Volodymyr Zelensky. Levin cautioned Trump that “MAGA doesn’t endorse Putin.”

Speaking on the Mark Levin Show on Wednesday, Levin offered a rare criticism of the president as he backed Zelensky for maintaining order in Ukraine following Russia’s invasion in 2022.

Levin’s segment appeared to be a direct response to Trump’s claims that Zelensky is a dictator that the Ukrainian leader is stopping free elections and only has a very low approval rating.

The Fox News host said both of those assertions are false.

“Zelensky ordered martial law — that’s what the constitution there compelled,” Levin said of Kyiv’s actions after Russia invaded.

“Zelensky hasn’t called for an election — that’s what the constitution there compels,” he added. “Now, I’m waiting for the first free election for Vladimir Putin.

“I mean, this is almost comical in a sick way that Putin is demanding an election,” Levin added. “Why is he demanding an election in Ukraine when he doesn’t have free and real elections in his own country?

“I don’t know why there are people that not only oppose Zelensky, but seem to support Putin.”

Levin also rejected Trump’s claim that Zelensky is unpopular in Ukraine, noting that the latest polls show his approval ratings at around 57%, and fought back the president’s suggestion that Kyiv somehow started the war.

“Ukraine did not invade Russia. Russia invaded Ukraine,” he said. “Ukraine doesn’t have the industrial might that a Russia has — or a China.

“They didn’t start this war. What were they supposed to do? Roll over and play dead?” he asked.

While Levin backed Trump’s ability to broker peace between Ukraine and Russia, even if it means cutting back on military support, the longtime conservative — who worked in the Reagan administration — warned the president not to let Putin have his way.

“MAGA doesn’t support Putin,” Levin said. “Eighty-one percent of the American people do not trust Putin because 81% of the American people are smart.”

Trump’s comments against Ukraine spurred a flurry of condemnation from the right, with many Republicans taking to social media to support Zelensky and reiterate that Putin is at fault for the war.

“Vladimir Putin is a vile dictator and thug,” Rep. Mike Lawler (R-NY) wrote on X.

“Vladimir Putin is the Dictator without Elections,” Rep. Brian Fitzpatrick (R-Pa.) wrote.

Rep. Don Bacon (R-Neb.) went a step further, telling CNN that the President’s comments were wrong.

“Well, the president needs a do-over day and start again. He took a bad turn. I think what he said is wrong, and it’s a shame,” he said. “I think many Republicans, I’m not saying all, but many Republicans know what the president said today was wrong.”
