Southern California neighborhood targeted with disturbing Christmas cards left on doorsteps by masked men

In a typically tranquil Southern California neighborhood, residents are grappling with an unsettling situation as mysterious letters have made their way to numerous homes. This Yucaipa community, located in San Bernardino County, is now on high alert as local law enforcement investigates the origins and intentions behind these troubling messages.

On a recent Monday night, a home security camera captured footage of an unidentified individual, masked and stealthily approaching a front door. The man left behind a letter, blew a kiss at the camera, and then vanished into the night. This scene was replicated across several homes, all receiving similar nocturnal visits.

The contents of these letters have left residents both bewildered and alarmed. While the notes arrived in the guise of Christmas cards, their messages were anything but festive. Descriptions of the contents ranged from vulgar to menacing, with some interpretations suggesting a threatening undertone.

“They were disguised as Christmas cards, but the content was laced with rhetoric that echoed what you might hear from groups like Antifa,” explained local resident Scott Ungar. He further noted that each card carried a distinct message, with one even ominously specifying a date accompanied by a cautionary note.

Ungar said each card contained a different message. One card, he said, included a specific date along with a warning.

“The one over there said a date and they said, ‘You’ve been warned,’ like they were warning something is going to happen on a specific date,” he said.

One street over, another resident, Jaret McComas, found a card addressed not to him, but to Santa.

“Picked it up, opened it, and it said, ‘Dear Santa, I want the head of a Nazi under my tree for Christmas,’” McComas said. “I was like, ‘That is a little weird.’”

McComas said neither he nor his neighbors who received the cards display political signs or affiliations. The randomness of the homes targeted has left residents unsettled.

“I am so confused by that,” McComas said. “I am not a heavy conservative. I’m gay, engaged to my fiancé Roger. So, it’s just kind of concerning for me because I am like, ‘What did I do?’”

He said he wondered whether the American flag outside his home might have drawn attention, but noted that not every targeted house had one, deepening the mystery.

Concerned residents contacted the Yucaipa Police Department. According to neighbors, police reviewed security footage and determined that two masked individuals were involved in delivering the letters.

“When you have people roaming your neighborhood in black face masks, leaving violent notes and warnings, it’s kind of disturbing,” said Ungar.

The San Bernardino County Sheriff’s Department, which makes up the Yucaipa Police Department, said it has increased patrols in the neighborhood.

Residents have also said they will be adding more cameras and security to their homes.
