A protester involved in a tumultuous clash in the Los Angeles area last year has been sentenced to close to a year in federal prison. The California Post reports that the individual, identified as Jacob Daniel Terrazas, had hurled a piece of cinder block at a federal agent during the disturbance.
Terrazas, 30, received a 10-month prison sentence for assaulting a US Border Patrol agent with concrete during a demonstration in June 2025 located near Homeland Security Investigations offices in Paramount. This sentence was part of a plea agreement finalized on Tuesday.
During the commotion, Terrazas attempted to hide his identity with a mask and used a shield as well as trees for protection over the course of the three-hour protest. Court documents reveal he was among a group of protestors who targeted federal agents with rocks and chunks of cinder blocks.
Bill Essayli, the leading federal prosecutor in Los Angeles, emphasized that Terrazas’ sentencing is a warning to anyone considering violence against federal authorities.
“Our stance is unequivocal: assaulting federal agents will land you in federal prison,” he informed The Post. “Today’s sentencing is a clear signal that we will hold accountable anyone who attempts to harm or interfere with federal agents. It’s not worth it.”
Prosecutors said Terrazas threw several pieces of concrete at law enforcement, with one of those hitting a Border Patrol agent in the shin and causing a bloody gash.
The injured agent removed himself from the front lines to tend to his injury but returned to the front lines after realizing he could still walk and stand.
Another Border Patrol agent was struck by rocks but was uninjured.
Terrazas repeatedly rushed toward agents to throw remnants of the cinder block at them, using both a makeshift shield and nearby trees for cover.
Eventually an agent in tactical gear rushed Terrazas and tackled him to the ground before he was arrested.
Video of the melee shows the agents arresting Terrazas as he throws shopping carts at them, while other protestors close in on the group.
“Stay back!” one agent is heard shouting.
Law enforcement used less-lethal force pepper bells against Terrazas and other rock throwers.
Terrazas remains in federal custody.
