In a joint announcement, the Tuscaloosa Police Department and the FBI’s Birmingham Field Office revealed the outcomes of a comprehensive seven-week initiative focused on tackling violent crime and apprehending fugitives.
Throughout this operation, officers from the TPD executed 239 traffic stops, leading to the arrest of 172 individuals. They also seized 22 illegal firearms and over $15,000 in cash. Notably, two cases involved Glock switches, which are devices that transform semiautomatic pistols into fully automatic weapons, as per the police reports.
David R. Fitzgibbons, Special Agent in Charge of the FBI Birmingham, emphasized the importance of collaborations with local law enforcement, stating, “The FBI works alongside our partners to eradicate violent crime and protect our communities. These partnerships are crucial for removing dangerous offenders and enhancing public safety. This operation underscores our steadfast commitment to fostering a safer environment for all residents.”
