Meghan Markle has expressed a desire for her daughter, Lilibet, to grow into a young activist, despite her tender age of four.
The Duchess of Sussex shared her admiration for Avery Colvert, a 15-year-old who founded Altadena Girls, a group dedicated to supporting teenage girls affected by the devastating wildfires in Southern California.
Since its inception, Meghan and Prince Harry have been ardent supporters of the organization, contributing to Altadena Teen Girls Fire Recovery through their Archewell Foundation earlier this year.
The royal couple also took the opportunity to volunteer alongside Colvert and her team, showing their commitment to the cause.
Praising Avery’s achievements, Meghan remarked, “You never anticipated that your efforts would grow to this scale. Yet, even if they hadn’t, your work would still hold significance and make a difference.”
‘My goodness, if our daughter turns out to be anything like you, I’ll be the proudest mom.’Â
Her comments were part of a wider interview about the founding of Altadena Girls, which included Ms Colvert, and volunteers Lula Seifert, Journey Christine, and Laurel Kleeger-Read.
The blaze erupted in January – destroying more than 6,800 homes and buildings across southern California. Â

Meghan made the comments about her four-year-old daughter’s future in an interview for Town and Country’s November 2025 issue.Â
It comes after Meghan, 44, shared a number of revealing insights into her family’s life in California in her latest video – including a rare glimpse of Archie and Lili’s faces.Â
In footage shared to Instagram over the weekend, Meghan was seen with Prince Harry and their two children on an outing to Lane Farms in Santa Barbara and afterwards carving their Halloween decorations at home.Â
While Meghan usually obscures her children’s faces by only photographing them from behind, her latest video offered fans a peek at their features as they ran around while Prince Harry worked on his pumpkin.Â
Though the pictures were blurry, it is the first time a photo of Lili’s face has been shared publicly since 2022, when an official portrait was released for her birthday. People also got a glimpse of the top half of Lilibet’s face to mark her fourth birthday in June.Â
The Duchess shared a black and white snap of herself cuddling Lilibet, who was sat on her lap, with the pair both sporting windswept hair.Â
A second image also posted on the same day by Meghan showed her cradling newborn Lili shortly after her birth in 2021.
The first official photograph of Lilibet was released as part of the Sussexes’ festive card in 2021 when she was already six months old.Â
Earlier this month, Meghan paid tribute to her daughter on Instagram to mark International Day of the Girl.
She posted a sweet snap showing her holding hands with Lilibet in the scenic grounds of their Montecito home, in a shot captured from behind.Â
The post was captioned: ‘To all the girls – this world is yours. Do everything you can to protect your rights, use your voice, support each other.Â
‘We will do the same for you. It’s your right and our responsibility. Go get ’em, girl! Happy International Day of the Girl.’
Meghan has previously discussed her hopes for her daughter’s future, revealing she is considering going into business with her.
During her podcast Confessions of a Female Founder, she spoke about ‘building something’ with her youngest child.Â
She made the comment while interviewing 71-year-old fashion designer Tina Knowles, who launched the haircare line Cécred with her daughter Beyoncé last year.
Meghan said in the podcast: ‘I wonder if one day I’ll be in business with Lili and we’ll be building something.’Â

Lili – the Duke and Duchess of Sussex’s youngest child – was born on June 4 2021 and was named Lilibet Diana Mountbatten-Windsor.
She is named after her great-grandmother Queen Elizabeth II.
Princess Elizabeth had difficultly pronouncing her own name as a toddler and her grandfather George V would affectionately call her Lilibet, imitating her own attempts to say Elizabeth.Â
The sweet nickname stuck and she became known as Lilibet to her family from then on.Â
But the late Queen was reportedly ‘as angry as I’d ever seen her’ after Harry and Meghan claimed they had her blessing to use the name for their daughter Lilibet, a royal aide said.
Royal author Robert Hardman, in his biography of the King, told how a member of staff recounted Elizabeth II’s fury following Harry and Meghan’s announcement in 2021 over the use of her childhood family nickname.
The BBC later reported a Palace source said the Queen was not asked by the Sussexes whether they could use Lilibet.
But the Sussexes’ lawyers fired off legal letters to the broadcaster and other publishers, saying the claim was false and defamatory.
A spokesperson for Harry and Meghan insisted at the time that the duke spoke to his grandmother in advance and would not have used the name had the monarch not been supportive.
Hardman wrote however: ‘One privately recalled that Elizabeth II had been ‘as angry as I’d ever seen her’ in 2021 after the Sussexes announced that she had given them her blessing to call their baby daughter ‘Lilibet’, the Queen’s childhood nickname.’
Harry and Meghan started using prince and princess for Archie and Lili after the princess’s christening in 2023, following correspondence with King Charles about the matter.Â
Their daughter became entitled to be a princess when her grandfather acceded to the throne, because of rules set out by King George V in 1917.
