Critics accuse Meghan Markle of 'staging' her Easter duckling video

Internet conspiracy theorists have accused Meghan Markle of ‘staging’ a sweet Easter video that shows her watching a flock of ducks crossing a road in Montecito.

The Duchess of Sussex, 43, looked overjoyed on Easter Sunday when she was filmed reacting to the adorable mother duck and her seven ducklings waddling together as a pack by a woodland.

Meghan, who was dressed in an elegant white sleeveless midi frock for the occasion, observed the animal waiting for its young in the middle of the road as she watched in, visibly open-mouthed that she was able to experience a special moment on Easter, as hatched ducklings are symbolic of spring and new life – and, therefore, strongly associated with the holiday.

She captioned the post, ‘An Easter weekend surprise’, and added the message, ‘Wishing you a Happy Easter full of love….and surprises!’

The short clip was posted on the mother-of-three’s Instagram account and has since racked up more than five million views.

But some viewers weren’t convinced that the Duchess came across the ducks by chance, with some claiming she had ‘set up’ the video after saying the camera is ‘set up in the centre of the shot’.

Taking to X, formerly known as Twitter, one person wrote: ‘You just know this was a set up. Poor ducks had to be filmed with Megs. She just happened to be there with a cameraman when the ducks crossed. Sure!!!’

Another penned: ‘Oh look the camera is set up to have Meghan right in the centre of the shot and the ducks are slightly off camera.

‘She literally just got dolled up for that five seconds of just herself with some ducks’

A third said: ‘Oh I don’t believe her, it’s a scam, the ducks were brought in to record Markle’s ad.’

A fourth commented: ‘A normal person would post a video of the mother duck and her beautiful ducklings. Meghan has someone film her so she (not the ducks), is the star of the video, in full ‘costume’ and makeup.’

However, Mallard ducks are very common in the state of California.

The California Waterfowl organisation stating that the majority of the mallards that are harvested in the area are also hatched there, rather than coming from other areas in the US or Canada.

Prince Harry’s wife appeared both shocked and thrilled in the clip when she came across the family of delightful ducks.

The soundtrack to the post is ‘Choo Choo Ch’Boogie’ by American saxophonist Louis Jordan, presumably chosen to draw attention to the train like motion of the duck and her flock.

The heartwarming post comes after Meghan launched her As Ever products, with the first run selling out swiftly.

She has since been pictured prepping for her next launch with her lifestyle brand.

The Duchess of Sussex was seen posing for a selfie with New York-based fashion cameraman Jake Rosenberg, as the pair shot new content to promote the brand.

The image, which Rosenberg shared with his fans, sees the ex royal placing both her hands on her friend’s shoulder for the cosy embrace.

Meghan donned a casual shirt with rolled up sleeves and natural makeup as she beamed into the lens for the black and white image.

Jake gushed: ‘Always a beautiful day shooting with @Meghan @AsEverOfficial,’ hinting that the pair are whipping up more creative shots to promote her company, which she described as ‘more than a brand, but a love language’.

Meghan sold out of her sought-after lifestyle range, which has been in the works for more than a year, in under an hour when it went live at the start of April.

Her first set of products to go up on the website included crepe mix, flower sprinkles, raspberry spread and ‘limited edition’ wildflower honey, ranging from $9 to $28.

Jake has known the Sussexes for years and is thought to have been there at the start of Harry and Meghan’s love story, as he knew the Duchess from her time filming Suits in Toronto.

The snapper also attended their London wedding and was photographed entering St George’s Chapel, Windsor, with Oprah Winfrey in May 2018.
