Fans traveling to MetLife Stadium could face a serious game-day traffic headache.
The East Rutherford venue serves as the home field for both the New York Giants and New York Jets, and a recent study ranks it among the NFL stadiums with the worst traffic conditions on game days.
Betpack analyzed gridlock data around 30 NFL stadiums to compare traffic congestion at each venue and identify the most difficult places to reach by car.
The study examined traffic within a one-kilometer radius of every stadium. Researchers combined three measures — congestion, average speed and travel time over 6.2 miles — to calculate an overall Congestion Score.
Congestion reflects how much longer trips take compared with free-flowing conditions. Betpack determined the figure by comparing recorded traffic speeds with typical speeds on clear roads.
MetLife Stadium ranked as the sixth-most congested NFL venue, posting an overall traffic score of 72.4 out of 100.
Traffic around the stadium rises 212.7% above normal levels on game days, while average speeds fall to just 13.4 mph. Driving six miles through the surrounding congestion takes an average of 27.7 minutes.
MetLife’s traffic problems are not new. A Fall 2025 ranking from Pickswise placed the stadium second-worst in the NFL for game-day traffic, giving it a score of 30.3 out of 100.
That analysis found East Rutherford had the longest peak travel times, with fans spending 38 minutes and 56 seconds traveling just 10 kilometers — nearly 10 minutes longer than at any other stadium.
Nissan Stadium, home of the Tennessee Titans, recorded the worst overall traffic conditions. During game days, a six-mile drive through the congestion takes 60.5 minutes.
The rest of the five worst stadiums for traffic were Soldier Field, home of the Chicago Bears; Empower Field at Mile High, home of the Denver Broncos; Huntington Bank Field, home of the Cleveland Browns; and Bank of America Stadium, home of the Carolina Panthers.
“This was the 8th NFL stadium I have been to and the worst to get in or out of. Parking was awful and disorganized,” one TripAdvisor reviewer wrote about MetLife.
Another fan who attended the Barcelona-Real Madrid soccer match at the stadium called it the “worst stadium they had ever visited.” The reviewer added, “After the game, it took us almost 1.5 hours just to get from the parking lot to the highway (less than 1 mile away). No exaggeration.”
The traffic challenges extend beyond football. Organizers have previously encouraged major-event attendees and World Cup fans to use public transportation, including NJ Transit, as officials issued traffic alerts to address severe delays.
At the other end of the rankings, Arrowhead Stadium — home of the Kansas City Chiefs — had the lowest overall traffic score in the Betpack study, at just 2.0 out of 100.
With both New York teams opening the season at a rare and promising 1-0, traffic around MetLife could become even heavier as the 2026 season continues.
