Highlights from the Mets’ Spring Training on Friday:
Catching up
Francisco Álvarez showcased his skills with two hits, including a powerful double, while also demonstrating his defensive prowess by throwing out a runner attempting to steal second base.
Bounce back
Craig Kimbrel, initially struggling with his control during his first spring outing, walked the first batter he encountered on Friday. However, he quickly regained his form, impressively retiring the next three hitters, two of them via strikeouts.
Caught my eye
In another highlight, Luis Robert Jr. hit a home run during a minor league game on a backfield in Port St. Lucie.
Carlos Mendoza praised Robert’s performance, saying he “continues to crush pitching.” Robert is set to play center field in minor league games every other day up until the scheduled off day on Wednesday, as he gradually readies himself for the season following a series of lower-body injuries with the White Sox.
