INDIANAPOLIS — A man has been charged with multiple OWI-related felony charges for his alleged role in a crash that left a man dead in downtown Indianapolis.

The Marion County Prosecutor’s Office announced on Wednesday that 26-year-old Brayan Camacho Calleja faces the following charges:

  • Causing Death While Operating a Vehicle While Intoxicated (Level 4 Felony)
  • Causing Death While Operating a Vehicle with an ACE of 0.8 or More (Level 4 Felony)
  • Reckless Homicide (Level 5 Felony)
  • Operating A Motor Vehicle Without Ever Receiving a License (Level 5 Felony)
  • Three counts of Criminal Recklessness (Level 6 Felonies)

Investigation, arrest

According to previous reports, officers with the Indianapolis Metropolitan Police Department responded on Sept. 20 shortly before 3 a.m. to the intersection of E. Ohio and N. East Street after receiving reports that a personal injury accident occurred.

Court documents have now shed more light on the deadly crash that left 31-year-old Aaron Radford dead.

A detective was sitting in his parked vehicle in a parking lot in the 600 block of E. Ohio Street when he recalled overhearing the “distinct sound of a car crash.”

The detective then turned his head toward the west of the intersection, where he observed a red Dodge Charger “sliding” eastward on Ohio Street toward him. Court documents reveal that the vehicle continued sliding from the eastbound lanes and onto a nearby sidewalk before coming to a halt against an apartment building in the 500 block of E. Ohio Street.

As the detective approached the Charger, a male reportedly exited from the driver’s seat and began to walk away. A female who was sitting in the passenger seat also started walking away from the vehicle.

The man was later identified as Brayan Camacho Calleja, who court documents noted was a Mexican rapper known as El Moreno Mexicano. His 57 YouTube videos have garnered more than 35 million views.

Officers arrived on the scene a short time later, where they determined that a black 2016 GMC Yukon was heading southbound on N. East Street when the Charger reportedly struck the Yukon. Radford was a passenger in the Yukon. IMPD later revealed that the impact of the collision caused the Yukon to leave the roadway and strike a utility pole before the Charger struck a building.

Radford was ejected from the vehicle and came to rest in the grass next to a sidewalk, court documents said. Radford was brought to Methodist Hospital, where he later died.

Camacho Calleja’s account

The detective then met and spoke with Camacho Calleja via a translator. He explained that he had recently left a downtown bar and was heading across E. Ohio Street. He claimed that as the light changed from green to yellow, he sped up and that this caused the crash.

As their conversation continued, the detective noted that he could smell an alcohol odor emitting from Camacho Calleja’s breath as well as “very bloodshot and glossy eyes.”

The officer then had Camacho Calleja perform a standardized field sobriety test.

According to court documents, officers could not locate Camacho Calleja within Indiana’s BMV system and determined that he did not have an Indiana driver’s license with him. The only form of identification he had at the time was a Mexican Consulate Card.

Camacho Calleja was then placed under arrest and transported to the Marion County Jail as his blood evidence was sent in for a toxicology screening. Camacho Calleja’s Blood Alcohol Content was later determined to be .108.

As part of their investigation, officers also heard from a passenger in Camacho Calleja’s vehicle. She stated that the two had been at a downtown bar, where they consumed “a lot of alcohol.”

After the bar closed, they got into Camacho Calleja’s Charger and began driving downtown. The passenger said Camacho Calleja was driving at a “high rate of speed” and ran through multiple red lights before the deadly crash, court documents said.

Officers also met and spoke with the driver of the GMC Yukon. He told officers that he was a Lyft driver and had picked Radford up from a bar on Massachusetts Avenue a few minutes prior.

Although he survived the wreckage, court documents noted the driver sustained two broken ribs.

Investigators then turned their attention to the Airbag Control Module inside the Charger after a search warrant was approved. The data revealed that the Charger was traveling 71 miles per hour five seconds before the crash. The speed only increased, as the Charger was determined to be traveling 94 miles per hour 1.1 seconds before the crash.

The posted speed limit on E. Ohio Street is 25 miles per hour.

‘There is simply no excuse for anyone to drink and drive’

Marion County Prosecutor Rya Mears said the consequences of drinking and driving are “devastating” when he confirmed that formal charges were brought against Camacho Calleja.

“In 2025, there is simply no excuse for anyone to drink and drive,” Mears said. “With rideshares, designated drivers, and countless other safe alternatives, choosing to drive impaired is reckless and preventable— and the consequences are devastating.

According to Marion County jail logs, Camacho has been placed on a federal detainer at the Adult Detention Center.
