Mexico sends firefighters, search personnel to help flood victims in Texas

SAN DIEGO (Border Report) — Mexico’s President Claudia Sheinbaum has sent a group of firefighters and rescue personnel to help search for flood victims in Texas.

The group is from Acuña, Mexico, which is located just south of the border from Del Rio, Texas.

The team arrived Sunday morning in Kerrville, Texas and has been working ever since.

Severe flooding hit the area on July 4 killing more than 80 people, including many children.

According to operators of Camp Mystic in the Texas Hill Country, 27 of its campers and staff died when a wall of water buried cabins along the Guadalupe River.

As of Sunday, at least 41 people remained unaccounted for across the state.

Ronald Johnson, the United States Ambassador to Mexico, thanked Mexico and Sheinbaum for what he called “displays of solidarity and support in the wake of the floods that have caused disasters in Texas.”

“Through Secretary de la Fuente of the Ministry of Foreign Affairs (SRE), I thank the Mexican government for its expressions of solidarity and support following the floods in Texas,” wrote Johnson. “Our people have always been united in the moments that matter most, guided by respect, empathy, and shared commitment.”
