Michigan Resident Receives Sentence for Casting Dual Votes in 2024 Primary Election

GRAND RAPIDS, Mich. (WOOD) — A Michigan resident, who admitted to voting twice in the August 2024 primary, has received his sentence.

The Michigan Attorney General’s Office revealed that Frank Prezzato was sentenced on Wednesday to six months of delayed probation.

Prezzato, aged 69, accepted a plea agreement last month, admitting to one count of casting both an absentee and an in-person vote. Under the terms of this agreement, he received a recommendation for a six-month delayed probation. Should Prezzato successfully fulfill the probation conditions, the charges could be dismissed with prejudice, meaning they cannot be refiled. Without this plea deal, he faced a potential sentence of up to five years in prison.

Investigators reported that Prezzato, from St. Clair Shores, voted in person during the August 2024 primary, despite having already submitted an absentee ballot. The Attorney General’s Office confirmed that both ballots were counted but did not provide details on why the duplication went unnoticed before the final tally.

“Voting twice undermines our democratic process,” Michigan Attorney General Dana Nessell said in a statement last month. “My office will continue to prosecute those who violate our voting laws to ensure Michigan voters have confidence in the integrity of our elections.”

Prezzato’s attorney, Vince Manzella, told the Detroit Free Press that he was surprised the case was bound over for trial and that Prezzato took a plea deal to avoid “the uncertainty of continued litigation.”

“He has never been in any trouble before and I have no doubt he will earn his dismissal,” Manzella told the Detroit Free Press.
