City Manager Steve Kennedy is set to be honored for his retirement on November 10. Just five days later, Mike Null, the current Assistant City Manager, will step into the role of interim city manager.

GREEN COVE SPRINGS, Fla. — As Steve Kennedy retires from his position as City Manager, Green Cove Springs has announced that Mike Null will temporarily fill the role.

Starting on November 15, Mike Null will assume his duties as interim city manager, bringing a wealth of experience to the position.

In his current capacity, Null serves as both Assistant City Manager and Director of Public Works. With over 22 years of service to Green Cove Springs under his belt, he has been instrumental in leading significant infrastructure projects and facility enhancements for the city.

“Mike’s vast experience, comprehensive knowledge of city operations, and dedication to our community make him an excellent choice to lead us through this transition,” stated Mayor Matt Johnson. “Both the City staff and the community hold him in high regard, and the City Council has complete faith in his capability to advance our priorities while supporting our employees and residents.”

While overseeing all city departments, Null will no longer lead the Public Works Department. Assistant Public Works Director Greg Bauer and Water Utilities Director Scott Schultz are set to take over.

The recruitment process for a permanent city manager will begin in the coming months, according to the city.

City Manager Steve Kennedy is retiring following a 48-year career, seven of those being with Green Cove Springs. Kennedy’s retirement will be celebrated on Monday, Nov. 10, in the City Hall Council Chambers. Neighbors are invited to attend from 5 to 7 p.m., with remarks beginning at 6 p.m.
