Upon seeing the charred remains of his Malibu home, which was destroyed in the devastating LA fires, Milo Ventimiglia fought to hold back tears. The 47-year-old actor, known for his role in “This Is Us,” visited the site just before his wife, Jarah Mariano, is set to give birth.
Forced to evacuate on Tuesday as the Palisades fire threatened their neighborhood, Ventimiglia and Mariano had to leave their home behind. The fire has already consumed approximately 20,000 acres in the area.
Reflecting on the loss, Ventimiglia expressed his deep sadness, mentioning the memories tied to the house and the heartbreaking sight of neighboring homes also affected by the fire. He shared his emotions in an interview with CBS Evening News on Thursday.
After the duo fled, they watched on security cameras as flames engulfed their home.
“I think there’s a kind of shock moment where you’re going, ‘Oh, this is real, this is happening,’” the “Gilmore Girls” alum told the outlet.
“And at a certain point, we just turned it off. What good is it to continue watching? We kind of accepted the loss.”
The pair, who wed in 2023, grabbed ”everything they could think of” before leaving for refuge.
However, they were unable to save a lot of items, including their unborn baby’s crib which they had already built for the child’s nursery.
“The whole thing was set up,” Ventimiglia said.
Ventimiglia walked through the destruction and described where each household item used to stand.
The actor famously played Jack Pearson on “This Is Us” opposite Mandy Moore’s character, Rebecca Pearson.
Jack and Rebecca — a married couple with three children — also lost their home in a fire on the hit television show.
“It’s not lost on me, life imitating art,” Ventimiglia said of the parallel.
Still, Ventimiglia is hopeful that they’ll be able to get their living arrangements back on track soon enough.
“We got good friends, and we got good people we’re working with, and we’ll make do. Wife and baby and dog, most important,” he added.
Ventimiglia’s former co-star Moore and her husband were lucky enough to find a large portion of their home miraculously standing in Altadena, Calif., after being forced to evacuate.
Elsewhere, Chrissy Teigen and John Legend were forced to flee their home and sought shelter at a hotel with their four children, four dogs, and pet bearded dragon.
Others include Harrison Ford, Mark Hamill, Eugene Levy and James Woods, and more.
Five wildfires are sweeping across Southern California – including the Palisades Fire, which firefighters have battled to contain six percent of the blaze.
The wildfires have burnt nearly 36,000 acres since it first ignited on Tuesday.
On Thursday, one person was taken into custody in connection to the Kenneth Fire, which erupted in Los Angeles’ West Hills on Thursday afternoon.
