A Mississippi police sergeant who fatally shot a 1-year-old boy while firing at a moving vehicle has resigned, Senatobia Mayor Greg Graves confirmed to The Associated Press on Friday.
Sgt. Hunter Foster’s departure comes days after the Mississippi Attorney General’s Office determined that he would not face criminal charges. The office said its months-long investigation found that Foster’s use of deadly force was legally justified.
The state released body-camera and other video Thursday showing the June 14 shooting at a Walmart parking lot in Senatobia, roughly 40 miles (65 kilometers) south of Memphis, Tennessee. The victim, Kohen Wiley, was sitting on his mother’s lap in the front passenger seat.
