Securing the Powerball jackpot remains a long shot, with odds standing at one in 292.2 million.
WASHINGTON — The Powerball prize is on the rise again, nearing the top 10 record territory after no winner was declared in Monday’s $570 million drawing. The jackpot is now set to increase to $593 million for the upcoming Wednesday draw.
A fortunate player from West Virginia came close, earning a million dollars by matching all five white balls but missing the Powerball number.
The jackpot has been growing consistently since the last major victory in September, when winners shared the second-largest Powerball prize ever. On September 6, two tickets sold in Missouri and Texas hit the jackpot, splitting an astounding $1.8 billion, one of the largest wins in U.S. lottery history.
The escalating Powerball prize follows the conclusion of a lengthy dry spell for Mega Millions. The competition finally saw a winner last Friday with a ticket sold in Newnan, Georgia, worth nearly a billion dollars.
