BIRMINGHAM, Ala. (WIAT) — The Moody Police Department is actively investigating an incident involving an attempted break-in and arson at a local Wendy’s restaurant early Monday morning.
Authorities reported that a call came in shortly before 6:30 a.m. on Monday, alerting them to a suspected burglary at the Wendy’s located on Village Drive. Upon arrival, officers observed shattered glass at the main entrance and detected a strong smell of what seemed to be a liquid accelerant inside the premises.
The Moody Police Department released a statement indicating that “two distinct areas within the establishment were targeted in an arson attempt.” With the help of the Moody Fire Department and the Bureau of Alcohol, Tobacco, Firearms and Explosives (ATF), investigators confirmed that fires had been intentionally set in these areas.
As of Monday evening, no suspects had been apprehended in connection with the incident.
