A Morgan Hill father allegedly left his three young children home alone before driving his critically injured wife to a San Jose hospital, where he reportedly confessed to killing her.
Roy Anthony Lopez, 37, was arrested Saturday after arriving at Good Samaritan Hospital in San Jose at about 9:20 a.m. and telling authorities he had killed his wife.
Hospital employees went to Lopez’s vehicle and found an injured woman inside.
“First responders located an adult female victim inside a vehicle parked at the hospital. Paramedics provided immediate emergency medical care, but the victim succumbed to her injuries and was pronounced deceased at the scene,” the Morgan Hill Police Department said.
San Jose police detained Lopez without incident until Morgan Hill officers arrived and took him into custody. He was transported to Morgan Hill for questioning before being booked into the Santa Clara County Jail on suspicion of murder under California Penal Code section 187(a), authorities said.
Investigators determined that the alleged attack occurred at a residence in the 1100 block of Vintage Lane in Morgan Hill. Officers also found three children, ages 14, 6 and 3, at the home.
The children were brought to the Morgan Hill Police Department and later “released into the custody of the Santa Clara County Department of Family and Children’s Services.”
Anyone with information about the case is asked to contact Sgt. Sean Bayard at 408-607-3032 or sean.bayard@morganhill.ca.gov.
The Morgan Hill case follows a high-profile shooting that occurred nearly a week earlier, about an hour south of the city.
On September 26, a New York Times executive was fatally shot by his in-laws in a Dublin parking lot after allegedly threatening to kill his wife and her parents.
The executive, who was transgender, had apparently given his children a book about a young girl whose mother died. He was also involved in a contentious custody dispute with his wife before his death.
