From Butter With Love, a beloved bakery that found its home within the walls of the Mossfire Grill, is now on the lookout for a new location after the sudden closure of its host venue this past Saturday.

In Jacksonville’s vibrant Five Points neighborhood, a sense of nostalgia lingers as the iconic Mossfire Grill unexpectedly shut its doors ahead of schedule. This closure marks the end of an impressive 27-year chapter for the popular dining spot.

Initially planning to close on November 9th, the restaurant announced on November 8th that it had to cease operations due to insurmountable staffing challenges. “We apologize to everyone that wanted to come out this weekend to get their Mossfire favorites for the last time,” the Southwestern eatery conveyed through its social media channels.

The closure was not entirely unforeseen. In October, Mossfire Grill had shared with its patrons that it faced a “very difficult decision” to close by the November date. However, the earlier-than-anticipated shutdown still took many by surprise, leaving its loyal customers yearning for one last taste of their cherished dishes.

The restaurant had announced to the public in October that it had made the “very difficult decision” to close on Nov. 9.

Following the announcement, First Coast News spoke with Mossfire Grill’s head chef, Cody Eddins. He said the decision ultimately came down to rising food costs, rent, and the lasting impacts of the pandemic.

With the Mossfire Grill goes a local bakery: From Butter With Love. The dessert shop had operated from within the Mossfire Grill since spring, but is now left without an in-person location. Its final day at the restaurant was Friday, Nov. 11.

“We’ve loved spending our weekday mornings baking and selling out of Mossfire. We’re so grateful for the space, and the support the neighborhood has given us these past six months,” wrote the owners on social media.

The bakery announced that it still has plans to continue business even without Mossfire.

“We’re already working on our next steps to keep all the sourdough, bagels, muffins, and your other favorites coming your way.”

Five Points businesses have a new opportunity to potentially improve their success. Jacksonville City Council recently approved the creation of a special Business Improvement District in Five Points, which will give neighborhood businesses the ability to fund and manage upgrades through local property assessments. The aim is beautification, better security and cleaner streets.
