A mother from Georgia has been apprehended following allegations that she left her baby in a sweltering car while she was at work.

Nyla Simmons, aged 22, was detained on November 3 by the Georgia Bureau of Investigation, which had been looking into the unexplained death of her seven-month-old son on October 16.

Authorities report that Simmons, who often expressed her affection for her infant son, Novanni, on social media, allegedly left him in her car while she worked at a Kia Automotive Dealership in Albany, as per WALB’s coverage.

The duration the baby was left inside the vehicle remains uncertain, but on that day, temperatures soared to a warm 88 degrees Fahrenheit, according to Weather Underground.

At some stage, Simmons reportedly returned to her car, only to find her child unresponsive, as stated by the police.

She then reportedly rushed the child to a local hospital, where doctors pronounced him dead.

At that point, the Lee County Sheriff’s Office brought in the Georgia Bureau of Investigation to determine what had happened.

She regularly gushed about her two young children on social media

The local coroner’s office has since conducted an autopsy on the child, but the results are still pending.

‘People get upset because they think after the autopsy you should have an answer,’ Coroner Michael Fowler said.

‘If there is not any trauma to the child or injuries to the child, then a lot of time, you got to wait on [toxicology] and the histology, all of that to come in and see what happened.’

But on social media, Simmons seemed to be a loving mother-of-two, often sharing photos of her infant son with her older daughter.

She posted on October 4 celebrating his seven-month birthday, and shared photos of her children enjoying a pumpkin patch the next day.

On October 10, Simmons was celebrating how far she had come in life.

‘Y’all keep asking why I’m at work because bills don’t pay themselves and my two kids think I’m a millionaire,’ she wrote at the time.

‘I’m a single mom doing backflips to give [my children] the best!

Simmons is now facing second-degree cruelty to children and murder charges, and is being held at the Lee County Jail

‘October really showing out for me though – new job AND a house,’ she continued. ‘If you see me smiling extra hard, just know the grind is paying off.’

Her tone seemed to have shifted following her son’s death.

On October 22, she thanked ‘everyone who reached out with genuine love and support.

‘Even if I didn’t respond, please know that I saw it, felt it and truly appreciated it,’ Simmons wrote.

‘Your kindness has meant more than words can say.’

She later also shared a post saying parents who have had to lay their children to rest have ‘already buried pieces of themselves once.

‘When you lose someone that close, something in you shifts forever,’ the post read. ‘You stop seeing life the same way. The person you used to be dies with them in a way.

‘You smile different, you love different, you breathe different,’ it continued. ‘Nothing feels the same no matter how much time passes.’

Simmons is now facing second-degree cruelty to children and murder charges, and is being held at the Lee County Jail.
