A wooden balcony on the third floor of an apartment in Cincinnati, Ohio, gave way on Friday evening, injuring at least 10 individuals, as reported by local authorities.
Cincinnati Fire Chief Frank McKinley addressed the media, stating the incident occurred within an apartment complex situated in the Corryville neighborhood, which lies adjacent to the University of Cincinnati campus.
According to McKinley, 10 individuals were transported to nearby hospitals. Among them, at least one person suffered injuries considered life-threatening. However, detailed updates on the victims’ conditions were not immediately available.
The cause of the balcony’s collapse has yet to be determined.
“It appears it was a gathering, and many of those present were students,” McKinley mentioned. “We are still gathering information on the nature of the celebration.”
The fire chief also said it was unclear how many people were on the balcony when it collapsed. He said the situation is under investigation and the university has been notified.
