DENVER (KDVR) A Florida homicide suspect was arrested near Vail after getting stuck in traffic on Interstate 70.
Aldo Armijos-Castillo, 32, was arrested Wednesday evening by the Marshals Service’s Colorado Violent Offender Task Force and the Vail Police Department.
According to the U.S. Marshals Service, Armijos-Castillo was wanted by the Manatee County Sheriff’s Office, south of Tampa, Florida, on a felony arrest warrant for murder by a person engaged in burglary. The warrant is in connection to an alleged home invasion on Dec. 26, 2024, in Bradenton, Florida that left one man dead.
Investigators recently discovered that Armijos-Castillo had fled Florida with plans to travel to California. On Wednesday, the U.S. Marshals Service’s Colorado Violent Offender Task Force learned Armijos-Castillo was traveling by bus on westbound I-70, but his trip was delayed due to a traffic crash near Vail.
Vail police officers and a SWAT team were able to locate Armijos-Castillo on the bus and take him into custody. He was booked into the Eagle County Jail on an outstanding homicide warrant. He is awaiting extradition to Florida.
“The success of this arrest represents a culmination of extensive cooperative investigative efforts between the U.S. Marshals Florida-Caribbean Regional Fugitive Task Force, U.S. Marshals Colorado Violent Offender Task Force, Colorado Bureau of Investigation, Vail Police Department, Colorado State Patrol, and Manatee County Sheriff’s Office,” said the U.S. Marshals Service in a press release.
