The White House on Tuesday dismissed new polling that has the president losing to Donald Trump in five swing states – as President Biden’s granddaughter took a shot at a top Democratic operative who questioned the wisdom his reelection bid.

The blast from inside the Biden family came as White House Press Secretary Karine Jean-Pierre commented for the first time on a stunning Sunday New York Times / Siena College poll that had Biden losing to Trump in five of six swing states likely to decide the winner in 2024.

The results sparked new discussion in Democratic circles about whether Biden is the best Democratic candidate for a 2024 run against Trump, who has vowed ‘retribution’ against his political enemies and is now beating him on the economy and cutting into Biden’s coalition.

Democratic strategist David Axelrod, who helped propel Barack Obama’s primary win, penned posts asking whether Biden should reconsider his reelection run – which evidently stoked a simmering feud with the Biden’s granddaughter.

‘It’s very late to change horses; a lot will happen in the next year that no one can predict & Biden’s team says his resolve to run is firm,’ Axelrod wrote on X.

Naomi Biden (L), the granddaughter of US President Joe Biden, took on former Barack Obama advisor David Axelrod online. 'Looking forward to proving the political pundits wrong... again,' she wrote, after he said polling should prompt President Biden to decide whether it is 'wise' for him to seek reelection

‘Only Joe Biden can make this decision,’ he added. ‘If he continues to run, he will be the nominee of the Democratic Party. What he needs to decide is whether that is wise; whether it’s in HIS best interest or the country’s?’

That prompted Naomi, the daughter of Hunter Biden and his former wife Kathleen Buhle, to issue her own response. ‘Looking forward to proving the political pundits wrong… again,’ she wrote Monday.

She then retweeted a post on X post dunking on Axelrod commented on Biden failing to capture any delegates in New Hampshire back in 2020.

‘Disingenuous – you’ve been predicting his demise & doubting his resilience since beginning. There’s a difference between being entitled to an opinion & relishing a platform to disparage AND between journalism & being a jerk with a microphone. Up next “who’d of thought he’d win”,’ she wrote in February of that year.

Biden did go on to win after a muscular showing in South Carolina.

She sought to diminish Axelrod’s prognosticating ability just as Jean-Pierre minimized the poll results – which were echoed in a CBS poll that had Trump leading Biden 51 to 48.

A Reuters / Ipsos poll released Tuesday had Biden’s approval rating down at 39 per cent, its lowest level since April. His favorability has been ‘underwater’ since August 2021.

‘We have to really take these polls with a grain of salt,’ Jean-Pierre said at her White House briefing.

She gave the line after first saying she wouldn’t speak to ‘anything related to 2024’ due to legal restrictions.

I also want to be very clear here, we have to really take these polls with a grain of salt,’ she said.

She called for being ‘mindful,’ and invoked 2022 when there was a ‘red wave that never materialized’ despite stories about Democrats being ‘wiped out.’ (Republicans won only a narrow House majority).

Then she pointed to 2020 polls, as well as 2011 polls showing Obama was in trouble against Mitt Romney.

From ‘now until the next couple of months, there’s going to be a lot of – dozens and dozens of polls. It’s not my job or my job from here to analyze these polls,’ she said.

‘As a general rule, we should take these polling with a grain of salt,’ she said.

That came as his New Hampshire primary rival, Rep. Dean Phillips (D-Minn.) said the latest New York Times/Sienna poll sent a ‘powerful message.’

‘There is no statement I can make that’s more powerful than the one Americans made in that poll,’ Phillips said to DailyMail.com in response to the new numbers.
