Tragedy struck the racing community as Greg Biffle, a beloved figure in motorsports, and his family were tragically killed in a private jet crash. The accident occurred as they were en route to visit a close friend.

Disturbing footage that has circulated online shows the Cessna Citation aircraft engulfed in flames beside the runway at Statesville Regional Airport in North Carolina. The crash happened Thursday morning around 10:15 a.m.

Authorities have confirmed that the 55-year-old NASCAR champion, along with his wife Cristina, daughter Emma, and son Ryder, were among the victims. Dennis Dutton, his son Jack, and Craig Wadsworth also perished in the crash.

The motorsport community is in deep mourning, with many expressing their grief and paying tribute to Biffle and his family on social media. His influence and achievements in the racing world were widely recognized and celebrated.

Racing driver and YouTuber Garrett Mitchell was among the first to confirm the heartbreaking news that Biffle, his wife Cristina, their five-year-old son Ryder, and his 14-year-old daughter Emma, whom he shared with his ex-wife, were all aboard the ill-fated flight.

Mitchell, who is also known as Cleetus McFarland, later uploaded a video that shows him and Biffle riding dune buggies in the desert together: ‘This will be one of my favorite videos of all time. A wheelie side by side with the Biff. This is the worst day ever’.

He was also named the 2001 Rookie of the Year in the NASCAR Busch Series before going on to become 2002 champion.

The racing icon married wife Cristina Grossu in 2023. They had one child together in Ryder, while Biffle also shared daughter Emma with ex-wife Nicole Lunders.

A statement released by the Biffle, Grossu, Dutton and Lunders families reads: ‘We are devastated by the loss of our loved ones. This tragedy has left all of our families heartbroken beyond words. Greg and Cristina were devoted parents and active philanthropists whose lives were centered around their young son Ryder and Greg’s daughter Emma (mother – Nicole Lunders).

‘Emma was a wonderful human being with a kind soul who was loved by many people. Ryder was an active, curious and infinitely joyful child.

‘Each of them meant everything to us, and their absence leaves an immeasurable void in our lives.

‘We ask for privacy, compassion and understanding as we grieve and begin to process this unimaginable loss. We are grateful for the kindness and support that has been extended to our families during this incredibly difficult time.

‘At this moment, our focus is on honoring their lives and supporting one another.’
