Navy Commander Detained at Naval Station Mayport on Charges of Child Sex Crimes: SJSO Reports

The investigation into a high-ranking naval officer by the St. Johns County Sheriff’s Office has roots tracing back to July 2025.

JACKSONVILLE, Fla. — A Navy commander has been taken into custody following accusations of child sexual offenses, as reported by the St. Johns County Sheriff’s Office.

The inquiry into the actions of Jonathan Saburn, 44, who serves as both a Navy Commander and the Deputy Director of Naval Academy Sailing, was initiated after a victim came forward with allegations of past abuse incidents.

The Sheriff’s Office stated that Saburn was involved in several instances of inappropriate conduct and contact with the victim during their youth, with incidents occurring in both St. Johns and Duval counties.

Saburn was apprehended at Naval Station Mayport while performing his duties and is currently being held without bond at the Duval County jail.

He is charged with lewd or lascivious molestation, lewd or lascivious exhibition and child abuse.
