WASHINGTON — Rodney Rogers, who rose to prominence as a star at Wake Forest before enjoying a 12-year tenure in the NBA, has passed away at the age of 54.

Selected as the ninth overall pick in the 1993 NBA draft, Rogers’ life took a dramatic turn after a dirt bike accident in November 2008 left him paralyzed from the shoulders down. The news of his passing sent shockwaves through the basketball community, eliciting heartfelt reactions from fans and the teams he once graced with his presence.
