A heartfelt gathering took place in Maple Shade, New Jersey, on Thursday night as the community rallied around 12-year-old Xavier Taylor, who is in critical condition following a tragic accident at a local baseball game.
According to family members, Xavier, a participant in the Maple Shade Youth Baseball league, was seriously injured on Tuesday when a baseball struck his neck during pre-game warmups in South Jersey. He was swiftly airlifted to Cooper University Hospital, where he remains under intensive care.
“My son Xavier has a deep love for this game, and he will play it again,” declared his father, Greg Taylor, addressing the crowd gathered in support.
In a show of unity and support, hundreds of friends, neighbors, and fellow teammates returned to Fellowship Columbia Bank Field, the site of the incident, for a poignant prayer vigil. The event featured music, candlelight, and heartfelt messages of encouragement, with many attendees donning shirts emblazoned with Xavier’s number 6.
“This evening, we gather to uplift Xavier with our prayers, strength, hope, and love,” remarked one speaker. “Baseball teaches us about teamwork, standing by each other, and never giving up, and tonight, we are embodying those values for Xavier.”
The Taylor family expressed gratitude for the outpouring of support as they remain focused on Xavier’s recovery.
“I could not have asked or ever dreamt of support like this right now, but our end goal is for our son to be back on this field or whatever field is next destined for him,” Greg Taylor said.
Community members have also organized a meal train for the family and raised more than $60,000 to assist them in their time of need.
