20th Century Studios has recently revealed its strategy for the Predator series. It was previously announced that director Dan Trachtenberg, known for Prey, would return to direct the live-action film Predator Badlands, featuring Elle Fanning.
In a new report by The Hollywood Reporter, it was disclosed that Trachtenberg will also helm an animated anthology called Predator: Killer of Killers. The movie will be based on a screenplay by Micho Robert Rutare, which originated from a story idea by Trachtenberg, and will be co-directed by Josh Wassung of The Third Floor animation studio.
The plot of Predator: Killer of Killers revolves around three of the most formidable warriors in human history: a Viking raider seeking revenge alongside her son, a ninja in feudal Japan challenging his Samurai sibling for power, and a WWII aviator investigating a supernatural threat to the Allied forces from the skies. Despite their deadly skills, they find themselves hunted by a superior foe — the ultimate killer.
Predator: Killer of Killers will premiere on Hulu and Disney+ June 6.
According to an interview with 20th Century Studio head Steve Asbell in 2024, Trachtenberg came to 20th Century Studios with several ideas on how to continue the Predator franchise without creating a sequel for Prey.
Asbell could not reveal much at the time about Predator: Killer of Killers, but regarding Predator Badlands, he said, “It is an absolutely bonkers idea. It is a sci-fi thing, but it’s not what everybody thinks it is. And I mean, it’s awesome. It is so nuts. But in Dan, we trust.”
However, Fanning revealed the shocking premise of Predator Badlands during CinemaCon last week.
“Something unprecedented happens in this movie, and my character is not the one being chased,” she said, per THR. “My character actually teams up with the Predator, and you get to see him in a whole new light.”
Predator: Badlands is set for a theatrical release Nov. 7.
