New York College Student Slashed by Mexican National David Cruz Torres While Driving Him Home From Work

A New York man allegedly attacked a female coworker with a knife and cut her throat while she was driving him home, police said.

Saratoga Springs officers were called Friday after a vehicle crashed into Augie’s To-Go, an Italian restaurant. When they arrived, they found the woman behind the wheel suffering from a serious neck wound that investigators said did not appear to have been caused by the collision.

The passenger, identified as 36-year-old David Cruz Torres of Michoacán, Mexico, reportedly attempted to leave the scene but was taken into custody by police.

Detectives later determined that Cruz Torres and the injured woman were coworkers in Saratoga Springs.

Police said Cruz Torres asked the woman for a ride home after the pair finished their shift.

During the drive, Cruz Torres allegedly pulled out a knife and attacked the woman, cutting her throat as she was operating the vehicle.

The woman managed to escape by jumping from the moving car and calling out for help.

She sustained life-threatening injuries and was flown to a nearby hospital for treatment, according to police.

Cruz Torres faces charges of second-degree attempted murder and fourth-degree criminal possession of a weapon.
