As authorities intensify their pursuit of the gunman responsible for the tragic shooting at Brown University, which resulted in the deaths of two students and left nine others injured, fresh video footage has been released to aid the investigation.
On Monday, investigators disclosed this new video, hoping it will lead to a breakthrough in identifying a person of interest. Law enforcement officials are urging the public to come forward with any information by submitting tips through the FBI’s online platform at fbi.gov/brownuniversityshooting or by calling 401-272-3121.
The renewed search efforts come on the heels of a significant development: a man previously taken into custody in connection with the case was released from detention. This individual was apprehended at a hotel in Rhode Island but was subsequently cleared of involvement, as announced on Sunday.
This turn of events has added complexity to the ongoing investigation, raising questions about the available evidence and the initial focus on the wrong suspect. Concerns have emerged over whether the focus on this individual might have inadvertently allowed the actual perpetrator more time to evade capture.
That marked a setback in the investigation and added to questions about the shooting and investigation, including an apparent lack of video evidence and whether the focus on the person of interest might have given the killer more time to flee.
State Attorney General Peter Neronha acknowledged the urgency of the situation during a news conference late Sunday night.
“We have a murderer out there,” he said.
The shooting happened Saturday on Brown University’s campus, where two students were killed and nine others were injured. With no suspect currently in custody, investigators are urging the public to review the newly released footage and come forward with any information that could help identify the person involved.
