Gavin Newsom’s team has responded to the governor’s recent seating controversy with a peculiar new image, sparking even more public ridicule.
The 58-year-old was initially mocked for the way he crossed his legs during The New York Times DealBook Summit on Wednesday, drawing widespread attention.
Social media quickly erupted with memes and humorous remarks, with many users questioning the ‘manliness’ of his sitting posture, while others simply commented on its apparent discomfort.
In response, Newsom’s team posted an AI-generated version of Newsom on X in an exaggeratedly contorted pose with the caption, ‘Democracy requires flexibility.’
However, the team’s attempt to address the situation appears to have only fueled further online mockery.
One user sarcastically remarked, “Uh. This isn’t the own you think it is.”
‘I’m hoping this account was hacked because there’s NO WAY Gavin would mock himself this bad and hilarious,’ another commented.
Governor Gavin Newsom was mercilessly mocked on Wednesday for the way he sat while on stage for The New York Times DealBook Summit
His press office was quick to response, posting an AI-generated image of Newsom, writing: ‘Democracy requires flexibility’
Newsom responded to the hysteria by simply reposting the edited photo with the caption, ‘WOW!’
The governor’s concise response to the photo drew more criticism from users online.
‘Dude, we’re all laughing at you,’ one user wrote.
‘We’re laughing at you not with you,’ another said.
‘Dude, this is so disturbing and gross,’ one commented under the post.
His flexible positioning was criticized only days ago for being feminine and uncomfortable looking.
‘Is this normal behavior?’ read one post.
‘It looks painful,’ wrote another user.
Newsom’s pose wasn’t the only thing that didn’t sit right with attendees. Actress Halle Berry condemned the governor for ‘devaluing’ women moments before he took the stage.
‘Back in my great state of California, my very own governor, Gavin Newsom, has vetoed our menopause bill, not one but two years in a row,’ Berry said.
‘But that’s okay, because he’s not going to be governor forever, and the way he has overlooked women, half the population, by devaluing us, he probably should not be our next president either.’

The bipartisan bill titled Menopause Care Equity Act would, if passed, mandate comprehensive health insurance coverage for women experiencing menopause and perimenopause symptoms.
It also stipulated that the California Medical Board create a menopause-specific curriculum and require doctors to complete ongoing menopause-related education.
Newsom said that he has spoken with Berry’s manager and they are ‘reconciling this.’
‘We’re getting it fixed,’ Newsom said, claiming that Berry was unaware that the measure was included in the budget before she gave her speech.
Following the fiery speech, a spokesperson for Newsom said he deeply admires Berry’s advocacy and looks forward to working with her on this ‘critical issue.’
The spokesperson then added that Newsom vetoed the bill twice because it would have ‘unintentionally raised health care costs for millions of working women and working families already stretched thin.’
At the summit, Newsom criticized the president and labeled him a ‘man-child’ and noted his age to quell any notions of Donald Trump serving a third term in The White House
The DealBook summit attracted many speakers, including Charlie Kirk’s widow Erika Kirk who shared more on TurningPoint USA’s future following her husband’s death.
Newsom’s 43-minute discussion at the summit addressed issues within the democratic party, including declaring that Democrats need to be ‘less judgmental.’
‘We have to be more culturally normal. We have to be a little less judgmental,’ Newsom said, The New York Times reported.
Newsom, who was criticized for defying federal law and marrying same-sex couples when he served as mayor, called for Democrats to become more moderately positioned.
‘We have to be a party that understands the importance and power of the border, substantively and politically,’ he continued.
The governor further said that the American people need a ‘compelling’ economic plan ‘where people feel included.’
He also heavily criticized the president, with whom he has had a back and forth feud online, during a discussion over Newsom’s bid for California’s new congressional maps in response to Republican gerrymandering.
‘It was about being accountable, not just rhetorically, but substantively, to address what Donald Trump is trying to do to this country,’ he said.
‘He’s trying to wreck this country.’
Newsom further labeled the president as a ‘man-child’ and noted his age to quell any notions of Trump serving a third term in The White House.
