(The Hill) California Gov. Gavin Newsom (D) teased campaign merchandise akin to President Trump’s MAGA items in a post Friday, a decision that coincides with his mimicking of the president on social media.

“NEW MERCH COMING SOON! YOU’RE WELCOME, PATRIOTS!” Newsom wrote in a post on the social platform X, with several American flag emojis. 

The post featured a photo of a red hat similar to ones the Trump campaign sells, with white print that reads “NEWSOM WAS RIGHT ABOUT EVERYTHING!”

Trump, earlier on Friday, was seen in the White House wearing a red hat with the words “TRUMP WAS RIGHT ABOUT EVERYTHING!”

Newsom, widely seen as a 2028 presidential contender, has taken to trolling Trump social media in recent days, writing his posts on X in the similar all-caps style and language the president uses on his Truth Social Platform.

“WOW!!! MY MAPS (THE BEST MAPS EVER MADE) WILL SOON PASS IN THE GREATEST LEGISLATURE ANYWHERE IN THE WORLD (NOT JUST AMERICA). AMERICA CAN THANK ME (GAVIN C. NEWSOM) AND TWO VERY SPECIAL PEOPLE MAGIC MIKE & RAINMAKER ROBERT, WHO LEAD THE LEGISLATURE TOTAL LEGENDS!!!” Newsom wrote in a post sent through his press office on X.

“PEOPLE ARE ALREADY SCREAMING ‘MAMA! MAMA!’ AND I SAY, ‘NO, I AM YOUR DADDY!!!’” Newsom added. “THE GOLDEN ERA BEGINS IN THE GOLDEN STATE, ALL BECAUSE OF ME, THE PEOPLE’S GOVERNOR, THE CARTOGRAPHER-IN-CHIEF, WHO WILL NOW LET THE PEOPLE VOTE!!! THANK YOU, USA!!!”

The California governor has taken on a leading role within his party in taking on the Trump administration, particularly through the broader redistricting battle playing out. 

Newsom has led efforts to put a new set of congressional lines before voters in the Golden State that seeks to neutralize expected gains once Texas passes their new House map. The efforts have raised his national profile potentially positioning himself for a White House bid in 2028.
