Derek Carr’s shoulder injury proved to be more serious than initially feared.

The announcement was made by the team that the Saints quarterback, being 34 years old, is retiring due to a labral tear and significant degenerative changes to his rotator cuff, as mentioned on Saturday.

There had been concerns he would miss the 2025 season, but Carr decided to end his career after 11 seasons following a talk with his wife, Heather.

The former Fresno State star spent time with the Raiders and Saints during his tenure.

In a statement, Carr expressed his decision to retire from the National Football League after careful consideration and discussions with his wife, Heather. He emphasized the gratitude for the more than 11 years of blessings and the special journey he had experienced. Carr found it challenging to articulate his appreciation to the teammates, coaches, management, ownership, team officials, and especially the fans who had shown unwavering support throughout their time in the league.
