Josh Jacobs faces charges of misdemeanor battery and misdemeanor criminal damage to property following revelations from a police report detailing the alleged events that led to his arrest.
The Green Bay Packers running back spent a night in jail after voluntarily surrendering to the authorities and now risks a potential suspension from the NFL.
According to an incident report about an alleged altercation with his girlfriend—triggered by her discovering him communicating with other women—Jacobs reportedly grabbed her and threw her to the ground, causing her to hit her head and sustain an injury. Authorities have confirmed they obtained surveillance footage to back her account.
Jacobs has been formally charged, although he has not been charged with any felonies, and the charges do not include domestic violence.
NFL spokesperson Brian McCarthy addressed the situation, stating, “We have been closely monitoring all developments in the matter which remains under review.”
Jacobs turned himself in on May 26 and was arrested by Hobart/Lawrence police before being released without charges from Brown County Jail the following day. The district attorney’s office said more evidence was needed before prosecutors decided whether to file charges.

A news release from police at the time said they responded to a disturbance involving Jacobs on May 23. Police listed the charges they arrested him on, which included felony strangulation, battery – domestic abuse, criminal damage to property – domestic abuse, disorderly conduct – domestic abuse, and intimidation of a victim.
A new statement read: ‘Today, August 27, 2026, the Brown County District Attorney’s Office filed a criminal complaint charging Joshua Jacobs with two criminal offenses.
‘Our office sought to ensure a fair and complete review of available evidence, some of which only recently became available to our office due to significant, ongoing forensic efforts by law enforcement.
‘A criminal complaint is nothing more than a written, formal accusation against a defendant alleging the commission of criminal offenses and does not raise any inference of guilt.
‘Mr. Jacobs is presumed innocent of these charges. As this is an ongoing criminal case, and out of respect for the rights of all parties, our office will not have further comment on the matter at this time.’
Josh Jacobs’ attorneys, David Z. Chesnoff, Richard A. Schonfeld and Clarence F. Duchac III, said: ‘The Brown County District Attorney has reviewed evidence and elected to file misdemeanor charges against Josh that do not include domestic violence.
‘The allegations will be addressed in court, and not in the media. Mr. Jacobs respects the District Attorney’s office and the process it followed.’
An incident report that has just been released by police reveals officers were dispatched to a residence belonging to Jacobs in Hobart, Brown County, Wisconsin at approximately 8:37am on May 23 after reports of a disturbance.

Officers made contact with an adult male who stated he lived at the property, and said he was not aware of an altercation. He said Jacobs’ girlfriend had left the house on foot while Jacobs left in his vehicle.
Dispatch then informed officers that Jacobs’ girlfriend was at a neighbors house on the phone with Brown County dispatch and had indicated she had a lump on her head she alleged was caused by Jacobs’ actions.
She told officers she ‘had been looking through Jacobs’ phone and saw that he was talking to other girls’ and said she threw his phone as she was upset. She alleged a ‘physical struggle, which lasted several minutes’ began when she tried to retrieve her phone from Jacobs and he ‘grabbed her arm’.

She claimed Jacobs left with her phone in a vehicle and she followed him in his other vehicle ‘in an attempt to retrieve’ it. After returning to the house, she alleges that ‘Jacobs called her a derogatory name’ and ‘made some comment to the effect that he would ‘do something to her’.’
While trying to exit the garage door to leave, she alleges ‘Jacobs grabbed her and threw her to the ground and she struck her head, suffering an injury. Jacobs then took her phone from her while she was on the ground’.
She claims she ‘struggled to walk back into the house’, while the police report states: ‘Officer Peterson observed redness’ to her ‘face and neck, and was able to feel that she had a bump on the back of her head. She described that she was in pain as a result of the injuries’
Jacobs ultimately turned himself in to police three days later. Police say they were able to retrieve video surveillance footage from the garage and that ‘the complainant believes this complaint to be true and correct.’
Earlier this week, Packers general manager Brian Gutekunst admitted the team could keep an extra running back on the roster due to the risk of losing him to suspension.
‘We could. You usually keep 3 or 4 running backs, and I think we have enough to do that.’
Jacobs was back in practice exactly a week after spending time behind bars as he took part in Packers OTAs earlier this offseason.
At the time, head coach Matt LaFleur said it was ‘business as usual’ with Jacobs despite the accusations that have been made against him.
Quarterback Jordan Love also revealed they have ‘talked internally’ about his teammate’s situation off the field.
‘You know everyone knows what the situation is there,’ Love added. ‘But obviously the details are… everyone is keeping the details under wraps right now out of respect for the situation and all the legal stuff that will be playing out, but it’s great to have Josh here with us and get back to work.’
