Nicki Minaj Teases Trump Press Secretary Role on Air Force One

Chart-topping rapper Nicki Minaj highlighted her political instincts during a Sunday conversation with White House Communications Director Steven Cheung.

The exchange took place aboard Air Force One as the aircraft carried them to President Donald Trump’s rally in Michigan, where Minaj was expected to address the crowd later that day.

Cheung shared a video of the discussion on X, joking in the caption, “Ladies and gentlemen, I think we may have found the new White House Press Secretary! @NICKIMINAJ.” Minaj reposted the clip with just two emojis: an American flag and a laughing face with a sweat drop.

Among Cheung’s questions was his view of the economy under Trump. Minaj, dressed in a Gucci suit reportedly valued at $6,000, offered an enthusiastic response.

“Well, we have a president who understands economics first of all,” she said. “You know, I’ve said before that the president is, naturally, a businessman,” adding that Trump had “worked his way out of not having a dollar left in the bank.”

Minaj went on to argue that Trump’s experience managing his personal finances showed he could also handle the nation’s economy.

She also praised Trump’s approach to international affairs, saying he was “tough internationally” and focused on telling other countries what the United States needed rather than prioritizing their demands.

Before Trump’s rally began, Minaj told the Daily Mail that she viewed the upcoming contest as “the most important midterm election of our lifetimes.”

“We need to make sure that our great President has a great team in Congress to work with during his final two years in office,” she said. Minaj added that this would allow Trump to continue developing initiatives such as the Trump accounts, which she said she proudly supports.

Trump has increasingly leaned on celebrity support during the closing stretch of his midterm campaign appearances. Recent guests have included boxers Mike Tyson, Jake Paul, Floyd Mayweather and Evander Holyfield, along with country singer Jason Aldean.

While traveling to Trump’s Sunday afternoon rally in Port Huron, Michigan, Minaj also praised the president’s demanding work schedule.

“The man won three elections!” she exclaimed. “He wakes up at four o’clock in the morning. He outworks people who are half his age.”

“What does that say about his character? He’s paying it forward. He’s thinking about the other Republicans who have to win in this election. That tells me that he’s a great guy,” Minaj said.

Alex Bruesewitz, a prominent outside political adviser whose wedding Minaj attended earlier this year, brought the idea to her online supporters, known as “Barbz” on X, asking, “what do we think about this idea??”

One Minaj supporter, posting under the handle @Rmitchell75R, welcomed the suggestion, writing, “If @NICKIMINAJ handles the press like she does this interview, they won’t be able to handle her! I love it!”

Another X user, @musclepisces, also endorsed the proposal, saying Minaj understood “media influence, public perception, crisis communication, and how quickly misinformation spreads.”

‘She has spent years navigating difficult interviews, public scrutiny, and competing narratives. Those are transferable skills in political communications. She’s perfect,’ @musclepisces added.

In January of this year, Minaj unexpectedly joined the President on stage Wednesday in Washington, DC during an event promoting Trump Accounts.

At the time, Trump praised Minaj for investing hundreds of thousands into accounts for her supporters’ children, then went off script to invite her on stage alongside businessman and Daily Mail contributor Kevin O’Leary.

The so-called Trump accounts aim to provide children born between January 1, 2025, and December 31, 2028 with a tax-advantaged investment of $1,000 provided by the Treasury Department.

That $1,000 stipend could be built on with up to $5,000 in annual investments.

If maximum contributions are made to the Trump Account, the projected value would be $1.1 million by the time they reach 28-years-old.

Minaj, who appeared shier-than-usual in front of the government and business audience that month, gushed about Trump despite backlash over her outward support for the President.

‘I am probably the president’s No. 1 fan,’ Minaj reaffirmed from the podium in the Andrew W Mellon Auditorium in January, before adding ‘And that’s not going to change.’

She said any hate towards Trump motivates her and his backers to support him even more.

The Trinidadian rapper also shared with fans earlier this year that she is working to obtain her US citizenship.

‘Residency? Residency? The cope is coping,’ she typed out in a separate post on X. ‘Finalizing that citizenship paperwork as we speak as per MY wonderful, gracious, charming President. Thanks to the petition.’

Minaj continued, ‘I wouldn’t have done it without you. Oh CitizenNIKA you are thee moment Gold Trump card free of charge.’

This year, Minaj has advocated for Trump and Vice President JD Vance on social media.

She also supported Erika Kirk at Turning Point USA’s AmericaFest in December 2025 and has since come out as a strong Trump supporter.
