In New Jersey, a police officer is facing allegations of using his phone to record surveillance footage of a woman detainee engaged in a sexual act in a jail cell, which he then allegedly shared on Snapchat, prosecutors revealed on Monday.

Ryan Bonanni, a 24-year-old officer with the Ventnor City police, was charged with official misconduct, computer theft, and three counts of invasion of privacy. The charges follow an incident involving a woman detained by the local police on July 6, according to the Atlantic County Prosecutor’s Office.

Bonanni, from Egg Harbor Township, reportedly accessed and recorded security footage of the woman, known only by her initials BW, as she undressed and performed a sex act in a holding cell, as stated by the prosecutor’s office.

He then allegedly filmed those clips on his cell phone and began sharing them with others on the social media messaging platform.

“We understand the charges against a Ventnor officer reflect poorly on our department, but they do not depict the department as a whole,” Police Chief

Joseph Wooton said in a statement, according to NJ.com.

“The men and women of the Ventnor City Police Department will continue to serve the citizens and visitors of Ventnor City with the utmost honor, integrity and respect.”
