Who can resist a spirited debate over rankings?

Whether you’re discussing the ultimate ’80s Schwarzenegger film — “Predator” takes the crown — or arguing if Kobe Bryant belongs in the NBA’s top 10 all-time greats — he certainly does — we all have opinions on ranking people, places, or things.

Rankings are a fundamental aspect of professional combat sports, with MMA fitting perfectly into this category. The challenge lies in finding a ranking system that genuinely resonates with logic and fairness.

The current state of UFC rankings leaves much to be desired. Compiled by 20 media outlets, many of which are relatively unknown and disconnected from mainstream MMA discussions at events and online, these rankings often seem misaligned with reality. (In full transparency, I was part of this panel when it once featured around 100 voters, including more well-known media figures.) Furthermore, these rankings are limited to the UFC’s roster and fighters are occasionally removed for arbitrary reasons.
