Nyara Sabally 'progressing' in her Liberty injury recovery

PHOENIX — Over the past month, Nyara Sabally has been working diligently behind the scenes while dealing with a persistent issue in her right knee.

She’s been doing stationary shooting and not much more outside of treatment.

But the Liberty’s shootaround Saturday ahead of their pivotal game against the Mercury that night offered a sight for sore eyes.

As her team focused on final preparations on one side, Sabally was on the other, practicing shots from subtle movements — such as backpedaling to the elbow — as part of the next stage in her recovery.

The Liberty haven’t shared many details regarding Sabally’s right knee.

Sabally revealed in early June that she had a platelet-rich plasma injection in the knee to help with pain and swelling.

Sabally has been limited to 15 games this season and hasn’t played since July 16, which was the Liberty’s final game before the All-Star break.

Sandy Brondello said the team hoped to have her back before the regular season ends Sept. 11.

After shootaround, the head coach told The Post that it’s nice to see her making progress.

“We hold Nyara in high regard, and we empathize with her situation given her unfortunate history with injuries. She was performing exceptionally well before this latest setback,” Brondello remarked. “Her recovery is progressing… better late than never.”
