NYC Mayor’s Wife Shuts Down Social Media Amid Backlash Over Controversial Posts

New York City’s First Lady, Rama Duwaji, has taken down an old X account following the discovery of controversial posts from several years ago.

Duwaji, who is married to Mayor Zohran Mamdani, faced scrutiny over allegations that she had shared inappropriate content, including the use of racial slurs and posts supporting pro-Palestinian terrorism, on Tumblr and X during her late teens and early twenties.

As of Thursday, searches for the account @_RamaDee revealed that it has been deactivated.

Despite this, Duwaji’s Instagram account, which boasts over two million followers, remains operational.

The Daily Mail has contacted Mayor Mamdani for his response to the situation.

The posts were uncovered by the Washington Free Beacon, which said it linked them to her using facial recognition software.

The discovery comes shortly after she made headlines for liking posts that celebrated the October 7 attack by Hamas on Israel, including one that called reports of sexual violence a ‘mass rape hoax.’

But it appears her history of sharing hateful content stretches back as far as 2013, when she apparently used a vile racial slur in a tweet to a friend at the age of 15.

The post reads: ‘Helllll yeah, n****. Super duper genius* excuse you.’

Other posts made from the account that year include blaming ‘white people’ for the creation of Al-Qaeda and claiming that Israelis should not be allowed to live in Tel Aviv.

In 2017, a Tumblr account linked to Duwaji by the Washington Free Beacon also reposted an image of plane hijacker Leila Khaled along with a quote from the infamous Palestinian.

‘If it does good for my cause, I’ll be happy to accept death,’ the caption read.

Khaled is hailed by terrorists as the first woman to hijack a plane after participating in plane takeovers in 1969 and 1970.

Duwaji’s account also appeared to praise other members of the Popular Front for the Liberation of Palestine (PFLP), of which Khaled was a longtime member.

The post came after she previously appeared to write on X that Tel Aviv ‘shouldn’t exist in the first place’, before adding that Israelis in the city were ‘occupiers.’

She also allegedly re-shared content that blamed the creation of Al-Qaeda on white people.

‘You can’t blame Muslims for terrorism because they didn’t construct, fund, or train Al-Qaeda,’ read the upload to Tumblr. ‘White people did that, too.’

The account even took aim at US troops, noting how they were not brave and were ‘mercilessly slaughtering third world civilians to maintain American hegemony.’

In 2015, she allegedly chose to celebrate International Women’s Day by posting a tribute to PFLP’s militant leader Shadia Abu Ghazaleh.

Ghazaleh participated in several attacks and died in 1968 when a bomb she was building exploded in her home.

The content appeared to have been deleted from the accounts when the Daily Mail conducted a search.

Mayor Mamdani was previously grilled about his wife’s social media presence and dodged questions about her liking a post in support of the October 7 attack.

The post made by leftist group The Slow Factory included images of groups of people after having taken over an IDF vehicle, with ‘Free Palestine’ scrawled over it.

Another image said: ‘Breaking the walls of apartheid and military occupation’, followed by the date.

Mamdani said: ‘My wife is the love of my life, and she is also a private person who has held no formal position on my campaign or in my City Hall.’

But Duwaji is not as shy and retiring as her husband lets on, and recently posed for a cover feature in the prestigious The Cut, an offshoot of New York magazine.

A spokesman for the mayor told the Jewish Insider: ‘Mayor Mamdani has been clear and consistent: Hamas is a terrorist organization, October 7 was a horrific war crime, and he has condemned that violence unequivocally.’

Mamdani has also come under fire in the past after apparently using anti-Israel phrases, including ‘globalize the intifada’.

As the city’s first Muslim mayor, he has been seen with skepticism by some Jewish New Yorkers over his ardent support of the Palestinian cause.
