The San Bernardino County Sheriff’s Department responded to Loma Linda University Children’s Hospital Wednesday evening following reports of a possible shooter.
The Sheriff’s Department released a statement via social media around 6:35 p.m. in which it said it was aware of reports of a “possible armed individual.”
Loma Linda University Health later confirmed that authorities had responded to the hospital as part of an “active investigation.”
Deputies were on the scene and actively clearing the large facility, officials said.
Videos from Sky5 showed a massive law enforcement presence with dozens of police vehicles and armed officers. Law enforcement helicopters were flying overhead the active scene.
Additional details were limited and Sheriff’s officials said updates would be provided on its official social media channels.
The status of the hospital operations is currently unclear, but the public was urged to avoid the area and find alternate routes.
