A 26-year-old man from Ohio finds himself in deep legal trouble as he faces charges in Florida that could result in up to five years behind bars in federal prison.
COLUMBUS, Ohio — An Ohio resident is now confronting a serious federal accusation after allegedly making threats to assassinate former President Donald Trump and decapitate a U.S. congressman.
According to the U.S. Attorney’s Office for the Middle District of Florida, Alex Miller, a 26-year-old hailing from Columbus, Ohio, has been detained and charged with transmitting threats of injury across state lines.
As per federal court documents, Miller allegedly dispatched an email on August 18 to Representative Randy Fine, a Republican from Florida, ominously titled, “Can’t wait to snipe your head off your shoulders!! :).”
Federal prosecutors claim that within the email, Miller menaced to set the congressman’s home ablaze and murder him and his entire family while they were sleeping. Additionally, he is accused of labeling Fine a Nazi and threatening both his beheading and the killing of Donald Trump.
“You deserve 10,000% to be beheaded and have your body paraded through the streets,” the email said, according to court records.
Fine represents Florida’s 6th Congressional District, which includes Daytona Beach and part of northeast Florida adjacent to the Atlantic Ocean.
The email was reported to the FBI, and search warrants connected Miller to the email account and address it was sent from.
An exhibit submitted by federal prosecutors, reportedly showing Miller’s Facebook account, reveals he also left reviews on the pages of several government officials.
Under former Homeland Security Secretary Kristi Noem, court documents said Miller called her a “garbage human being all around” and “mentally unfit” for her job. He also allegedly left a review using derogatory language and referencing beheading about White House press secretary Karoline Leavitt.
Miller was arrested in Columbus on Aug. 19 and is currently being held at the Franklin County jail, according to the jail’s inmate roster.
If convicted, Miller could spend up to five years in federal prison, the attorney’s office said.
