Police said Snyder was one of 16 men during the operation on May 9.

COLUMBUS, Ohio — Former Ohio State wrestler and Olympic Gold medalist Kyle Snyder was arrested as part of a prostitution sting, the Columbus Division of Police confirmed on Monday.

Columbus Police Sgt. Joe Albert said the police division’s Police and Community Together (PACT) unit conducted an undercover operation in the city’s north side on May 9. The operation was aimed at reducing prostitution.

Around 8:15 p.m., officers began receiving text messages and phone calls from a man responding to one of the ads. A meeting was arranged at a nearby hotel, according to the department. About 20 minutes later, a man — later identified as Snyder — arrived at the hotel, paid an undercover officer cash and requested a sexual act.

Snyder was arrested for engaging in prostitution by uniformed officers inside the hotel room, according to Albert. He was released from custody at the scene.

He was summoned to appear in court on May 19.

Snyder became the youngest American wrestler to win Olympic gold when he achieved the feat at the 2016 Rio de Janeiro Games, and then he claimed silver at the Tokyo Games.

He was a three-time NCAA champion at Ohio State and has won three world championships.

Last week, Snyder signed with the Real American Freestyle wrestling league.

Snyder is expected to appear in court on May 19.

Albert said Snyder was one of 16 men during the operation.
